The Essex Street Market is a European style grocery department store located on Essex Street in the Bowery just a few blocks south of Houston Street.
You can find fresh fish, meats, vegetables along with an assortment of eclectic food items from around the world, but predominantly western cultures.
Many of the boutique stores are planning to move into a new building a block away when it opens next year.

Manhattan is home to a number of unique shops and shopping. In fact some of the best and most varied shopping in the world. The shops range from super elite of the Upper East Side and Midtown to boutique stores offering an eclectic collection of goods, many of which are imported and some made by local artisans and craftsmen.

Many Manhattan farmers markets are open year round, but there are also a number of them that are seasonal. Some of the seasonal Manhattan farmers markets begin closing in the Fall, with a few of them closing in December.

East Village Shops - Russo's Italian Food Store

Russo's fresh mozarella and pasta store is located in the East Village off First Avenue. The East Village was once an Italian and Jewish destination point for immigrants coming to the new world and Russo's is one of the vestiges of that past.
One can find fresh mozarella which they make and fresh made pasta, along with an assortment of other generally Italian food stuffs such as olive oil, and other imported Italain foods.
East Village Shops - Veniero's Pastry Shop
East Village Neighborhood / Food Shopping East Village / Manhattan Buzz NYC.
Veniero's is one of the oldest Italian pastry shops in New York City and for that matter the entire nation. They can be found not far from Russo's just off First Avenue in what once used to be an Italian enclave of the East Village neighborhood.
They continue to make fresh Italian pastries and canoli.
