Nicholas Roerich Museum at West 107th Street between Riverside and West End Avenue. Nicholas Roerich was an artist and an independent curator of Russian culture. He left Russia around the time of the Russian Revolution because of concerns regarding government interference in cultural affairs. Vice President Henry Wallace became a friend following Roerich's arrival in the U.S. by way of Finland. Roerich won the Nobel Peace Prize of 1935 for the Roerich Pact which is an inter American treaty which states that the protection of culture takes precedence over military necessity.
